DIGITAL SYSTEMS INFORMATION
Digital systems represent data by using number codes that are patterns of 1's and 0's.
These number codes are known as Binary Digits, also known as base 2.
A binary digit is the smallest unit of data in computing and is represented by a 1 or a 0. Binary numbers are made up of binary digits (bits) .
Within a computors processing unit are circuits which are made up of millions of tiny transisters. When the resisters receive messages it switches and the 0 or 1 reflects on or off.
Computers program instructions are translated into simple binary codes that activate the central processing unit. When programmers write the code, did you know that this is converted into instructions? Well it is.
Did you know that music, images and software is stored using binary? These binary numbers can be encoded in different ways to give them meaning eg. an 8 bit pattern 01000110 could be the number 20 or the letter S.
